How to Get Started: Spiritual Disciplines 6

In How To Get Started Classes by Schweitzer Church

Session 6 | Keep the End in Mind

It’s easy for spiritual disciplines to turn into a checklist of activities. Have you ever experienced this? Try to describe what that feels like.

What are some key relationships in your life that you have to pay special attention to? What are some of the practical things you do to invest in that relationship?

Are there times where you find yourself “going through the motions” in a relationship with someone important to you? What do you do to try to fix that?

What are some things you can do to pay attention to your heart so your relationship with God can develop?

Spiritual disciplines are meant to be practiced over the long haul. Eugene Peterson describes the Christian life as “a long obedience in the same direction.”

What is your reaction to this description? Does it encourage you or discourage you? How does keeping a long view of your life with God help you persevere in difficult times?
