Sermon Discussion

Discussion Guide | Moses | Part 3 | Exodus 5:1-6:12

Gathering Prayer

Father, by Your Spirit, please guide us into all truth. Help us hear and be attentive to Your voice as we work through this study. In the name of Jesus, Your Son, we pray, Amen.

Opening Questions

  • What stood out to you in the sermon?
  • What insights did you gain?
  • What questions did it raise?

Read Exodus 5:1-21

  • Imagine what it must have felt like for Moses to return to Egypt after 40 years. What emotions and memories might he have experienced?
  • What do you think Moses expected to happen when he confronted Pharaoh?

Read Exodus 5:22-6:12

  • Reflect on Moses’ words in 6:12. Notice how Moses puts the pressure on himself. How does this mentality lead to discouragement?
  • How does discouragement affect our view of reality?
  • Moses incorrectly assumes the battle is between him and Pharaoh. What are some examples in our lives of thinking the battles in our life are ours to fight?

Pharaoh vs The Lord

  • Just like how the Israelites will either serve Pharaoh or the Lord, our world is full of “Pharaohs” demanding our service and slavery. What are some Pharaohs that you struggle against?
  • What are some ways we can discern the various “Pharaoh’s” that are demanding our service?

Romans 6:6-11

  • The Lord fights our battles. What changes in our life when we know this truth?
  • Reflect on how the death and resurrection of Jesus has set us free from the “Pharaohs” of this world to serve the Lord.

Put it into Practice

  • What are some practical ways we can learn to depend on the Lord to fight our battles?
