Come to me all who are weary and burdened…

Think about the three predictable reasons to be weary and burdened:

You are living in self-destruction (sin).

You are carrying things that aren’t yours to carry.

You are living at a pace that you can’t keep.

  • Which of these predictable reasons most stand out to you? Why?
  • Can you think of any other predictable reasons to be weary and burdened?
  • Which of these three predictable reasons do you think is most common?
  • Which of these three predictable reasons is the most difficult for a person to recognize in themselves?

…and I will give you rest.

  • What are some of the most common ways you see people try to find rest?
  • What are some practical ways Jesus brings rest into our lives?
  • How have you experienced Jesus’ rest?
  • What are some ways you’ve found that the sabbath points us to Jesus?

“Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

  • Following Jesus can be very difficult, yet his yoke is easy and light. How do you make sense of that difference?
  • When is it most difficult for you to take upon yourself the easy yoke of Jesus? Why?
  • What do you think Jesus is saying to you today through this invitation in Matthew?

Closing Prayer.
