Father, by Your Spirit, would you guide us into all truth. Help us to hear and be attentive to Your voice as we work through this study. In the name of Jesus, Your Son, we pray, Amen.

Matthew 5:38-42

  • Why does revenge not satisfy us? 
  • Which of the four examples Jesus gives is most challenging to you? Why? 
  • What would be some modern examples of “not resisting an evil person” that you can think of?

Matthew 5:43-48

  • When is a time you have had to “pray for those who persecute (or wronged) you”? What was that experience like? 
  • How does praying for those who have wronged us help us to love them? 

Matthew 5:48 “Be perfect (or complete, mature), therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect (or complete, mature).” 

  • What is your reaction to this verse?
  • How is loving our enemies a sign of spiritual maturity? 

Romans 5:6-11
